M. on Friday, February 21st, a very violentboiler explosion occurred at the plant of the Mobile Electric Co.,Mobile, Ala. Two boilers of different makes were concerned withthe explosion; both boilers were of the water-tube type — onebeing a Heine and one a Stirling. Four persons were killed by theexplosion, three outright at the time of the accident, and a fourthinjured, whose death subsequently resulted. The explosion wasfollowed by a fire which caused still further damage to the wreckedplant. EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. As will be seen by the cut on the front page, the destructionof the portion of the plant, which was known as the old plant, was very complete. A heavy building wall running from north tosouth, dividing the old plant from the new, was a great factor inpreventing more serious damage to the new plant. The equipmentin the new plant was very little damaged
