Electrospray ionisation apparatus. Close-up of the nanospray apparatus used in electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Electrospray ionisation (ESI) is a method of creating ions from a solution, for use in mass spectrometry. The mass spectrometer analyses and identifies the chemical composition of the solution based on the mass-to-charge ratio of the ions it contains.
