River Rafting Through Abandoned Bridge Piers on the Shenandoah River

These river-rafters are riding the Shenandoah River through the community of Harpers Ferry and about to reach the confluence of that river and the Potomac River. They are in the HARPERS FERRY NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK, which is located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers in the 3-states area of West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland. The story of Harpers Ferry is more than one event, one date, or one individual. It involves a diverse number of people and events that influenced the course of our nation's history. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Meriwether Lewis, John Brown, "Stonewall" Jackson, and Frederick Douglass are just a few of the prominent individuals who left their mark on this place.
