Plans to build three apartment blocks in the middle of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle have been given the green light. Applicant Neptune Baltic are to build up to 13 storeys high in the zone, which includes numerous old warehouse buildings. The proposed scheme includes 324 apartments in three blocks, including a residents gym, meeting rooms and commercial space. It is not connected to plans to demolish Heaps Rice Mill, which are yet to go before the planning committee. One of the buildings is to face onto the Strand and sit close to the Baltic Fleet pub. The brickwork will be a similar colour to the Wapping warehouse across the road so the buildings are in keeping with the rest of the area. Planning officer Peter Jones said three objections had been received on the grounds of inadequate parking, the buildings being too high, that there were too many flats in the area as it is and a loss of view. He said the issue of the view was not a planning consideration, and that the basement of the building would contain a 360-space car park to mitigate some of the parking concerns. He added that there was no requirement for a Section 106 payment - which would be used by the council for public realm works - because “to have this site built out, in regeneration terms, negates the need”.
