Hartman received his early education in the public schools of Ohioand after removing to California attended the splendid schools nf Pasadena. Laterhis education was supplemented by a special course in a correspondence school, afterwhich he pursued a special study of the science of horticulture and seed selection, inwhich he has attained signal success and made for himself a prominent place in thehorticultural and agricultural circles of his community. In addition to his specializingin chili peppers Mr. Hartman devotes half of his ranch to general farming; he thor-oughly understands the cultivation and peculiarities of the soil in this vicinit>- andis an authority on the most suitable crops to be propagated. Hartman was united in marriage with Miss RoseBastady, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Imanuel Bastady and this happy union has beenblessed with four children: Rosalie Marie, Helen Esther, Ida Mae and Frank Hartman is a native of Basel, Switzerland. The family are members of the Con-gregational Church of Buena Park. During his residence in Orange County, has contributed his share to the substantial development of agriculture andhorticulturq in the county and is an honored member of the Farm Bureau of BuenaPark.
