TREATMENT OF APPENDICITIS 35 stitched if one chooses, and convalescence will progress without disturb-ance and without resulting hernia. In the after-treatment of these early cases three factors are to be ob-served : rest, feeding, care of the bowels. The patient should be kept in bedfor at least twelve days; he should then begin to sit up a little every day,and by the end of three weeks he should be walking a
