Communist soldier with long shadow

These illustrations were inspired by some old Spanish plastic toy soldiers from the 1960's. They came in three colours and I was explained by the original owner that the red soldiers represented the Russians, the yellow- the Chinese and the green -the Americans (!)....When my son started setting them out on the table, the light caused them to produce these long shadows and powerful, universal images. It was a interesting challenge to create as simple an illustration as possible and yet somehow depict the feeling of being held at gunpoint or simply representing an armed soldier, any soldier.
