BURDETT, who is prominent in thecouncils of the Republican party of Massachu-setts, was born in Wakefield (then South Reading),Middlesex County, Oct. 30, 1848, being the son ofJoseph and Sally (Mansfield) Burdett. His early edu-cation was obtained in the public schools of Wakefield,and in 1867 he entered Tufts College, at Medford. Hewas a very hard-working student here, and was gradu-ated second in his class, notwithstanding the fact thathe had to be absentnearly one half thetime to earn themoney necessary forthe other half. Hetook up the study oflaw immediatelyupon his graduation,in the office of JudgeHammond, then citysolicitor of Cam-bridge, and in thesame year enteredthe Harvard I. a wSchool. On April19, 1873, he was ad-mitted to the bar inMiddlesex County,and during the fol-lowing year practisedwith Judge Ham-mond. In 1
