Picton Harbour is the port where ferries connect the South Island to the North Island. It is a vital economic link for freight and tourists. the earthquakes that closed SH1, the coastal highway, showed how important Picton was in connecting the two islands. Long journies were made to keep the freight and tourits moving between the two islands.
