High Andes Altiplano of Chile, 24 May 2018 South America is home to several types of camelid; these are basically camel - relatives that weren't designed by committee. There are several types, but they can be tricky to tell apart. Here is my quick guide: Llamas are the common, shaggy one; Alpacas are smaller, cuter and have great wool; Guanacos have tall necks, less fur, and kangaroo-like faces; Vicu–a are basically smaller guanacos. That was easy! So here is a small group of Guanaco seen by a salt flat in the Bolivian altiplano.
