The monument, which is shown in theillustration above, will be in the Doric style ofarchitecture, in the form of a pile of graniteone hundred feet square and one hundred feethigh, capped by a dome seventy-feet in the dome will be figures representingfour of the generals attached to Grants staffduring the war. The gateless portico will besurmounted by a colossal equestrian statue ofGrant. The crypt will contain a memorial hallwhere 1,000 persons can assemble. On oneside will be a granite sareonhagus with a placeby the side of the warrior for the body of hiswife,when she shall have departed this life. Thewhole will cost in the neighborhood of $500,000.
