( 1\) James Carnahan, only son of WilliamKing and Hannah Mahon (Carnahan) Mc-Donald, was born at Princeton, New i, 1831. After obtaining his earlyeducation at a ])reparatory school in Prince-ton, he entered Nassau Hall. Princeton Ini-versity. graduating in 1852. lie then read lawwith his father, and was admitted to the NewJersey bar as attorney, November, 1855, andas counsellor, November. 1858. Mr. McDonaldhas never sought or held public office, but hasdevoted his time to his profession, in which hehas gained prominence and honor. Mr. McDonald has also activereal estate interests, and has been a director ofthe National Newark Banking Company forseveral years. He is a member of the FirstPresbyterian Church. On November 7, i860,at Madison, New Jersey, JMr. McDonald mar-ried Mary Henrietta Condit, daughter of PeterW. and Martha (Tabele) Condit, who wasborn in Newark, New Jersey, December 26,1837, and died May 24, 1897.
