J., and with offices in Philadelphia, New York andChicago, died August Tth in Atlantic City, N. J. was seventy-eight years of age, and his deathwas due to heart disease. He was born at Stone, Straf-fordshire, England, and was descended from John Lucasot Derbyshire, a companion ot Isaac Walton, author ofthe Complete Angler. In 1S44 he came to the UnitedStates, and four years later settled in spending a few years as a commission merchanthe began the manufacture of paints, and eventuallyestablished the house which now bears his name. took an active interest in the early developmentof Atlantic City as a seaside resort, and it is statedthat it owed its first great start and boom to his tore-sight and energy in publishing and making known itsmany advantages while
