Sinusitis. Coloured coronal (frontal) computed tomography (CT) scan of the face of patient with sinisitis (sinus infection and inflammation). The right maxillary sinus (black, lower left) contains mucus (orange) resulting from the infection. The paranasal sinuses are facial bone cavities (black) that connect with the nose. They include the maxillary sinuses (lower left and right) inside the cheek bones. Other paranasal sinuses include the ethmoidal sinuses (centre) of a bone behind the nose, and the frontal sinuses (centre) that lie above and between the eyes (upper right and left). Treatment of sinusitis is with antibiotic drugs and decongestants.
