Russia, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. Walrus hunting. Indigenous people of Chukotka are permitted to hunt walruses for subsistence purposes. Traditionally, all parts of the extracted walrus are used. While modern technologies provide a substitute for many aspects of walrus use, its meat is still a necessary part of the diet of indigenous peoples. Tusk crafts are an important part of folklore and earnings for many communities. In picture: Tusks of a walrus caught by hunters of the Enurmino village.
