Linz / Austria - In a biomass power plant, huge piles of logs are stored, waiting to be burned and turned into climate damaging CO2.
Burning forest biomass is highly controversial as it leads to additional CO2 emissions and, according to scientists, it is not "climate neutral" until the regrowing forest on the cleared area has reabsorbed the CO2 emissions. This process takes several decades. Nevertheless, the EU classifies the combustion of biomass as "emission-free" and allows subsidies.
