GURAH, NORTH OF ELWAK, EASTERN KENYA, 1st SEPTEMBER 2009: Fatuma Adan's husband stands with their empty donkey cart. His herd of 25 camels that he took to pasture in Somalia was stolen by militia at gunpoint. Their donkey that used to carry firewood to Alwak to earn some money died so now all they have left is a donkey cart and 10 goats. "We are proud people," says Fatuna, "who would never dream of begging by the roadside but now we are reduced to this." Northern Aid water tankers supplies water to Gurah community. The weekly delivery of water lasts for four days.
