King’s gate Dutch Baroque style gate. Bridge over moat & entrance to the Kastellet Citadel fortress, Gopenhagen, Denmark The citadel has two gates designed by Henrik Ruse 1663. The King’s Gate on the South side and the Norway gate on the North side. The King's Gate exterior facade is decorated with garlands and pilasters and a bust of King Frederik III and has a clock and two bells on the interior façade. Kastellet, The Citadel is a 17th Century fortress in the form of a pentagon with bastions at its corners built 1664 and was part of the ring of defensive bastioned ramparts which used to encircle Copenhagen. The Citadel is still in active military use but is also open as a public park and historic site.
