To add to thismeans of affording a conspicuous site for the new building wasthe circumstance that the upper end of Broad street was consid-erably elevated. There was no continuation of Broad street beyondthe city wall, although a lane had been marked out on the presentline of Nassau street, which being afterward improved, was de-signated by the cognomen of the street that runs by the
