But some of the more lively and care-less spirits of the Old Vamps weredetermined that the career of their com-panies would not be closed without sig-nalizing the event in a way more agree-able to their tastes and inclinations, andaccordingly an alarm was sounded fromSixteenth and Folsom streets to give theold boys their last run with theirmachines. It was a false alarm, turnedin by some of the old boys themselves, 28 SAN FRANCISCO FIREMEN.
