AMPUTATIONS, RESECTIONS, ETC. 80 AxKLE-JOiXT (Koexig).—Tliis is a satisfactory operation, espe-cially for tuberculous joints. The lower part of the leg rests upon asandbag, the foot being elevated and turned outward. An incision ismade upon the inner side of the ankle, commencing an inch or an inchand one-half above the level of the joint, and passing down along theanterior border of the tibia and inner malleolus parallel with and justinternal to the extensor tendons which lie upon the front of the MP. This incision penetrates through the integument and periosteum tothe tibia, and is continued downward across the ankle-joint, into whichit opens, and then curves forward upon the neck of the astragalus asfar as the tubercle of the scaphoid.
