remains of the Roman Theatre in the Tuscan town of Volterra. Productions still take place in the theatre today.
One of the best examples of a Roman Theatre in Italy. Extensive excavations were carried out in the 1950s. Although the theatre fell into disuse it remained pretty well intact until the middle ages when its stone was used to construct defensive walls for the city. Today productions take place again, although on a modern stage with modern seating, as seen in this image.
