This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Vela-C molecular cloud. Herschel Space Observatory (HSO) infrared image of Vela-C, a giant molecular cloud where stars are being born. These observations are at far-infrared wavelengths. Vela-C is the most massive component of the Vela Molecular Ridge, a vast star-forming complex in the plane of our galaxy, the Milky Way. Vela-C is 2300 light years from Earth in the constellation of Vela. The image combines data acquired with the PACS (Photodetector Array Camera and Spectrometer) instrument (70 microns, blue; 160 microns, green) and with the SPIRE (Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver) instrument (250 microns, red).
