C. Wefel Light Foreman Denver (Col.) Tramway ASET of 550-volt automatic block signals has re-cently been constructed in the shops of the DenverTramway, and installed on one of the lines of this com-pany. A careful investigation of available records in-dicates that 50 per cent of signal failures are lampfailures, and special attention has been given to anelimination of this trouble. In doing this we are usingfor lighting the signals 80 per cent of the current con-sumed, rather than 20 per cent or 40 per cent, as insome signals. The signal shown in Fig. 1 has two circuits, each oneconsisting of four 115-volt bow-tungsten lamps, andone 250-ohm resistance coil. The lamps, as well as thecoil, are provided with automatic shunts, and in caseof the failure of any lamp o
