N. Craig and Kenneth Finlayson. The picnic committee reported all bills paid and a balance of $80 on hand. There were reports on the June ladies' night and the Framingham field day, held September 3. Owing to the rent- ing of Horticultural hall for the greater part of October, the next meeting will not be held until October 25. Chrysan- themums will be made a feature at that time. Ray T. Argood, poultry instructor and demonstrator at the Essex Horticultural School, was the lecturer of the evening. He spoke for minutes on the se- lection of poultry for breeding and egg production. He passed numerous birds around in the audience to illustrate his remarks and was listened to with the closest attention throughout, both com- mercial and private enthusiasts showing a keen interest in egg production. A host of questions were asked of the lecturer by B. F. Letson, manager at Carbonc's. Mr. Letson is a most en- thusiastic poultryman and his figures on egg production were remarkable for a city florist. Many others kept piling up the questions. No previous lecture lias brought out so much interesting dis- cussion. Exhibits of the evening, were Asters Climax and St. Egwin and a fine col- lection of phloxes from the Blue Hill Nurseries.
