One of the four original 1215 Magna Carta documents held in Salisbury


The Magna Carta in Salisbury Cathedral is one of the most famous documents in English history. It is a legal document issued by King John in June 1215 which, among other things, gave protection from illegal imprisonment and limited taxation. It has become recognised around the world as the cornerstone of liberty.
