The Rev. Dr. Burtsell left Rome for tlie UnitedStates on August 20th, 1862, and on arriving in hisnative country was, in November, 1862, appointed as-sistant at St. Anns Church, Astor Place. In 1876 the Rev. Dr. Bvxrtsell paid a \isit to Rome,and in an audience with the Holy Father obtained aspecial plenary indulgence for the parish of CHURCH OF SATNT FRANCIS OF WEST TIUIiXY-FIKST STREET.
