Nothing esjiecial need be said ofinflammations of the phalangeal articulation, except thatthey are not common. Diseases ok the Shoulder-Joint. — Chronic Tubercu-lous Ostitis. The general symptoms of ostitis of theshoulder differ in no way from those in the usual form ofthis disease in other more commonly affected joints; butstiffness at the joint is less noticeable on account of mo-bility of the scapula. The disease is insidious, extremelychronic, and decided impairment of the joint is certainto result. The earliest sign of this disease is pain, of adull aching character, which is usually aggravated atnight, and is referred either to the joint itself or to themiddle of the arm near the insertion of the deltoid. Inmany cases this symptom is al)sent or vcrj slight, and])r(ibably in these the origin of the disease is in the s_y-uovial meml)rane. About this time the patient is noticedto use the arm much
