Specifically, in 2007 and 2008, her efforts determined the root cause of the of the explosions on the USS Howard and USS Halsey as being caused by the lubricants being heated to their explosive limits in the reduction gear sumps. In 2013, her technical proficiency was called upon to analyze issues with toxicity off gassing of hydrogen sulfide effluents emanating from the Fuel Oil Recovery Plant - an accomplishment that helped FLC San Diego win the prestigious CNO Environmental Sustainability Award in 2014.
