Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated mostly by the Tamil community on the full moon in the Tamil Thai month during January or February to commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a 'spear' so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. This is particularly noticeable in countries where there is a significant presence of Tamil society like India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, South Africa, Guadalupe, Reunion, Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar.
