Not for use in Television Not for use in Television Peritoneal dialysis machine. This machine is used in a patient's home for automated peritoneal dialysis. Dialysis, or haemodialysis, is required when the kidneys are no longer able to filter waste products from the blood properly. Peritoneal dialysis uses the patient's peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity) as a filter. Peritoneal dialysis removes the need to visit a hospital several times a week for several hours to undergo dialysis on a machine. However, it does involve the insertion of a catheter in the abdomen that can become infected and so proper training needs to be given to the patient to minimise the risks involved.
