Dempsey,the late well-known Director ofour Association for that was produced from a seed ofa Bartlett, fertilized with Duch-ess dAngouleme. The tree is agood grower and quite produc-tive. The fruit is firm and con-sequently would ship well. A Plate of Dempsey Pears (reduced Description : Fruit large,oblong, obovate, pyriform ; skinsmooth, yellowish-green, withbrownish-red cheek in sun ;stem abouL one inch long, setin a fleshy base, and with almostno cavity ; calyx nearly closedin a moderately deep unevenbasin, core small. Flesh white,fine grained, tender, almostmelting, with sweet deliciousflower. Season, last of Oc-tober. November.
