It is made in various sizes, totreat from one cwt. to a ton and a half of paint, the quantityeach mill is capable of dealing with at a time being notmerely dependent on the specific gravity of the materials, butalso to a large extent on the consistency and other propertiesof the mass. In most cases the stronger machines are alsosuitable for dealing with smaller quantities than their 196 IRON-CORROSION AND ANTI-CORROSIVE PAINTS. normal capacity, but it is better to state the purpose forwhich the mixture is required when ordering. When themachine is in motion the kneading paddles work one againstthe other inside the mixing pan. To save time and increasethe effect, the machine should be run backwards at intervals, being fitted with reversing gear for that purpose. The bestresults are obtained when the machine is filled so full thatthe peculiar sound of the materials dashi
