The town of Warner had been granted in1735 to proprietors mainly resident in Amesbury, Mass., and thegrant was called Amesbury. The plot had been surveyed, but nosettlement was made till 1749, when four log houses were erectedat the present village of Davisville, but never were permanentlyoccupied. They were subsequently burned by the Indians. Noother attempt was made to settle the town till 1764. The route of Capt. Ladd from Tuckers pond was down theAmesbury or Warner river to Contoocookville, and thence toHopkinton village. The Indians were accustomed to frequent the falls on the riversto catch salmon, and hence the movements of Capt. Ladd to theirfavorite ^^. ^%^^^ [/
