Cloning livestock at Viagen

Technicians denucleate oocytes (remove the DNA from horse egg cells harvested from a slaughterhouse) reconstruct the resulting cytoblasts by inserting horse tissue cells into the egg cells; and fuse the new embryos by applying an electric pulse to momentarliy disintegrate the cell membranes. Here Tim Xiang (left of frame) reconstructs. The tiny hollow he is using is seen coming in from the bottom of the monitor. Those little circles are the horse tissue from the donor animal he is cloning.
