St Mary Woolnoth. One of the 'Fifty New Churches' or 'Queen Anne Churches', built 1716-1727 by Nicholas Hawksmoor in the English Baroque style. The bulbous pulpit, with a marquetry sunburst of 42 rays, a number with profound religious and mystical significance. In the Kabbalistic tradition of Judaism 42 is the number with which God creates the Universe.
