In the background are Victoria, lying stern-on, and the clipper-ship Lanarkshire, just about to start with her valuable cargo of wool for the London [Geelong 's] harbour is at once convenient, safe, and capacious; and already quite a little fleet of clipper-ships regularly load wool here for the English markets. Indeed, from its peculiarly favourable position, Geelong is, perhaps, destined to become at no distant period "the Liverpool of the Australian colonies".' From "Illustrated London News", 1868.
