DNA analysis. DNA glass microarray (left) and two DNA microchips (or biochips) being held in a hand. Biochips are collections of minaturised test sites (microarrays), which allow many tests to be carried out simultaneously in order to achieve greater throughput and speed. Tests include recognition of thousands of genes at a time and analysis of events in a single cell. The results of a microarray analysis (collection of dots) is seen in the background. The biochips are based on a mica substrate. The central one is a low-density biochip (128 samples), but the one on the right is a high-density biochip (8100 samples). The samples are added robotically. Photographed in France.
