Has the ocean drunkfrom the heavens until they have grown pale, or isthe sky merely a mirror of the oceans sapphire? In the calmest of weather there are alwaysgreat blue swells far out at sea, so blue, so freefrom whitecaps that one requires but slightimagination, by looking through half-closed lids,to see great rolling meadows of gentians. This iswhere all the pretty little formalities of port lifeare laid aside—the moment the anchor is on deck,the ships flag and the union jack are folded away,and their staffs taken down, while simultaneouslywith their lowering an ensign mounts to the gaffand the admirals flag shrinks on the
