Compression fracture of thoracic vertebra. Labelled artwork and corresponding X-ray showing the effect of a compression fracture of the seventh thoracic vertebra (T7). These are lateral (side) views, with the rear of the spine at left in each view. The ribs are also visible. This fracture is described as a moderately severe 75 percent anterior wedge-shaped T7 vertebral compression fracture. The wedge shape is indicated by the lines on the X-ray at right. Between each vertebra are discs of fibrocartilage (blue). Labelled at left are fragments of bone that have broken free. This sort of fracture is commonly caused by osteoporosis.
