Second survey (spring) Horizontal distribution of temperature and salinity On survey II the trend of the surface isotherms and isohalines was similar to that on survey I, but throughout the whole region the temperatures were markedly lower. This can to a large extent be attributed to the seasonal change, survey II having taken place about the coolest time of the year; but also, as will be shown in what follows, the more active upwelling before and during this survey has also contributed to the overall effect. 4" EAST.
