The magnificent Geiranger Fjord is located in the Sunnm¿re region of M¿re og Romsdal county, Norway. One of NorwayÕs most popular tourist attractions, it was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. Like all fjords, it was carved by the action of glaciers in the ice ages and was then flooded by the sea when the glaciers retreated. Who knows, one day the glaciers may return? But not yetÉ The hair-raising ¯rnevegen - Eagle Road - shown here is the name given to the steepest stretch of road up the mountain side from Geiranger towards Eidsdal. The road catapults through 11 hairpin bends up from the Geirangerfjord to the highest point on the stretch, 620 metres above sea level at Korsmyra. The road is much loved by suicidal cyclists, skateboarders and folk just looking for a good scare.
