Of Jerome of Prague no literary remains sur-vive by which we can estimate how far theclaims made for him by contemporaries tolearning and ability can be justified. Possiblyhe owes the larger part of his lasting fame tohis association with Wyclif and Huss. Historymay assign him a comparatively subordinate placeamong those whom Beza styles the Antesignani ofthe Reformation, but the splendid heroism which hedisplayed in his final appearance before his judgesand in his death has secured for him an honourablestanding in the noble army of 40
