Halabja, Iraqi Kurdistan, once home to 5,000 Kurds attacked by Saddam Hussein with chemical weapons in March 1988. After the gas bombs fell the town and homes were also subject to destruction by conventional bombs and bulldozer. A memorial site has been created for the graves of the victims overlooking the town.
