As everything relative to the early history of our city, has a peculiar interestto a New-Yorker, we give in this years Manual a plate of the first three busi-ness tokens issued by our enterprising merchants. The first of these in order of time, is that issued by Messrs. Mott, in theyear —A Regulator, supported by two columns, and surmounted by a small — Motts, N. T. Importers, Dealers, Mamifacturers of Gold and Silver Wares.^Reverse—An Eagle, with expanded wings, facing to the left, holding anolive branch in one talon, and three barbed arrows in the other. Theshield of the United States upon his breast. Above the eagle, the date,— Watches, Jewelry, Silver Ware, Chronometers, Clocks.^The firm of Motts, as the writer has been informed, was composed of John Mott, and their place of business was at No. 240 Water street.
