Sri Lanka is an island nation in South Asia. Sri Lanka has the longest continuous history of Buddhism of any Buddhist nation. Kandy is the capital of the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy Valley which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. The Kataragama Devale Buddhist shrine is one of four Devales located in the modern part of Kandy.
