The »Alte Schwede«, built around 1380 is considered the oldest. Its finely sectioned corbie stepped gable is adorned with glazed brick. Its name recalls that the town belonged to the Swedish crown from 1648 to 1803. The ‘Alter Schwede’ on the east side of the marketplace in Wismar is a similarity impressive example of Gothic gabled house architecture. The brick building, erected around 1380, is of a one-storey design and has a very large stepped gable towering above a portal with a pointed arch.
