SAN DIEGO (March 11, 2019) Aircrew Survival Equipmentman 1st Class Bryan Zielke, assigned to amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), shoots the M9 pistol during a practical training drill at Poway Weapons & Gear Range as a part of Makin Island’s security forces sustainment course. Every year, Sailors that are authorized to carry a weapon must sustain their qualification. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting a depot-level maintenance availability.
