Skull and Fracking Kills message written in chalk on the road. Anti-fracking protestors halt convoy of lorries delivering to Cuadrilla
Skull and Fracking Kills message written in chalk on the road. Anti-fracking protestors halt convoy of lorries delivering to Cuadrilla's exploratory shale gas fracking site at Little Plumpton, near Blackpool. A Yougov poll carried out resulted in 66% against hydraulic fracturing in the Fylde area, 21% for fracking and 14% undecided. Lancashire County Council refused permission but government minister Sajid Javid, Conservative Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, overruled their decision. Protests are held at the site on New Preston Road with a 24 hour presence and direct action by protesters is carried out on a regular basis. Two protesters took the opportunity to jump on two lorries in a convoy being escorted along Preston New Road resulting in the police closing the road for several hours. A third man jumped on a lorry shortly after. This is known as 'Lorry Surfing' and the lorries cannot move until the protestors are removed.
