Barbecue. The annual barbecue of the Atlanta Florists' and Horticultural Club took place July 19, at the farms of the H. G. Hastings Co. All of the stores, green- houses and nurseries closed at 9:30 a. m. and for the first time in the memory of even the old-timers the public could not buy a single flower in Atlanta or surrounding territory. The seventy-five automobiles started from the Auditorium promptly at 10 a. m. and arrived about 11 a. m. After singing and other music, a group photograph was taken by Francis Price and then all hands adjourned to the long tables under the trees for the real event of the day. H. G. Hastings made a short address of welcome and the "cue" was on. The number present far exceeded ex- pectations, totaling nearly 300, many coming from as far away as Macon, Newman and Marietta. Unfortunately, rain spoiled many of the events in the afternoon, but in spite of this added fea- ture the "cue" was a great success and the only regret was that it is held only once a year. Great credit is due to Ralph Deans, the genial secretary of the club, and the other members of the committee in charge for the time and trouble to make the outing a success.
